Domestic Flights South Africa is a premier travel site offering the best deals in South African air travel from the region’s highest rated airlines.
FlySafair has a mission to increase the number of women in aviation. One method they chose to help accomplish this was to sponsor the Girl Fly Programme in Africa (GFPA) Foundation’s 2018 Aviation and Space Camp.

The goal of the camp was to bring over 120 high school girls from the South African Development Community (SADC) region and familiarize them with the aviation and space industry. The camp ran from Saturday, 30 June through Thursday, 5 July. The event was co-hosted with Ladies that UX, Women in Aviation Botswana Chapter and Girls Invent Tomorrow.

Elmar Conradie, CEO of Fly Safair, reported that they were excited to join the event as a platinum sponsor.

FlySafAir – Empowering Women in Aviation

FlySafair is a budget airline which operates out of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is a subsidiary of Safair, an aviation company based out of O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Comradie stated, “More young girls should be saying ‘I want to work in aviation when I grow up’.”

“We are committed to empowering women in aviation. We believe it is important to introduce young girls to the aviation industry and broaden their education experiences, expand their career options and hopefully look to join the industry when they are older.”

The camp introduced the students to relevant technologies in the aviation industry, such as coding, Artificial Intelligence, robotics, simulator flights, recreational aviation, introductory flight and many more exciting activities.

The Girls Fly Programme in Africa (GFPA)

The Girls Fly Programme in Africa (GFPA) Foundation is an exciting programme introduced by Women & Aviation (W & A). W & A founded the non-profit organization to help close the gender gap in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

GFPA Foundation is an education programme for school and post-school learners who have expressed an interest in aviation and space or other STEM fields. This educational programme is intended to introduce young women, along with the general public, to new opportunities which expand their horizons. The achievements of women in the aviation and space industry are also highlighted throughout the experience.

The annual GFPA Foundation’s Aviation and Space Camp engages its attendees with a variety of challenging, motivating and thought-provoking educational activities. These activities hope to create more awareness of the STEM field, with an emphasis on careers in space and aviation.

GFPA molds and develops future leaders in the field. Their learning process promotes a strong work ethic and teaches goal-setting. Each cohort builds a culture of community and volunteerism which ultimately benefits the whole of South Africa.
