Digital eye strain is an increasingly prevalent problem for people in our technologically-driven world. The American Optometric Association offers an explanation for the increase in cases of digital eyestrain to include the fact that viewing a digital screen is very different from viewing a printed page. The printed page often offers sharper images and a better level of contrast than a digital screen. With a digital screen, there is often a glare or refection that makes viewing more difficult.

Symptoms of digital eye strain include headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision and possible neck and shoulder pain. The symptoms can be brought on by prolonged use of computers, e-readers, tablets and cell phone screens. Often the level of discomfort increases with the amount of screen time used.

Other situations that can increase the symptoms of digital eyestrain can include glare on the screen, poor lighting, viewing from an improper distance, undiagnosed or uncorrected vision problems, or an awkward seating position. Many of the symptoms of digital eye strain will be relieved by putting the screen away and allowing your eyes to rest. However, some people will continue to have symptoms such as blurred vision even after taking a break from the screen if they do not do anything to address the underlying condition.

If you can eliminate the glare and filter the Blue Light put off by digital screens, you can effectively fight eye strain. Blue Light is the light that is emitted by the digital screen. While it makes the screens more efficient, it can have negative implications for the screen user including, eye strain, sleep disturbances and can increase the risk for macular degeneration.

One of the easiest ways to fight eye strain is to get a high-quality pair of glasses that use the latest technology to eliminate glare and Filter Blue light in order to reduce eye strain.
