Smile Stations Nominated for Prestigious Thomas Edison Awards 2019

San Francisco, CA – Smile Stations, the company that offers the world’s first oral care interactive patient education & content distribution platform, is pleased to announce that it has been nominated for the 2019 Thomas Edison Awards.  The Edison Awards, often referred to as “The Oscars of Innovation,” are a set of 16 awards that honor excellence in technological innovation, new product and service development, marketing, and human-centered design. Bestowed on a yearly basis, finalists will be announced on or around Thomas Edison’s birthday, February 11th, 2019.

“We are honored to be nominated for the Edison Award,” says Smile Stations CEO Nazar Kamangar. “Smile Stations is the only point-of-care interactive patient education, advertising and merchandising platform in oral care with camera for social media engagement and voice activation skills to create a better patient engagement experience.”

The idea behind Smile Stations was instigated when Chief Dental Officer Dr. Omid Mehdipour realized there was a huge need for digital and mobile education for his orthodontic patients. In 2014 he contacted his friend of three decades, female MBA entrepreneur, Nazar Kamangar, who had a brilliant idea for captive audiences in the waiting rooms of dental offices. Smile Stations was developed as a result: a solution for an interactive digital patient engagement that could support education, communication, and merchandising at point of care.

Working with a team of engineers and a supplier who believed in her vision, Nazar spent four years developing the software and hardware that makes Smile Stations a revolutionary solution that is disrupting a historically slow to change oral care market.

Kamangar explains that with the new technology, dental offices can effectively share valuable information with their patients. It allows people to become more educated about oral health while learning about the products and services that are available to them. It also provides ways for dental practices to initiate, support and close sales at point-of-care.

“Dentists struggle with running a practice while educating patients about oral care, patient procedures and preventative medicine,” adds Kamangar. “And likewise, dental brands have found it difficult to introduce professionally prescribed products to consumers in dental offices. And that’s where Smile Stations comes in. While the technology is familiar to patients, it provides a revolutionary solution for dentists.”

In order to effectively leverage Smile Stations’ unique innovation, the company initiated a pilot program in Illinois, California, Maryland and Florida. In addition, a large scale pilot with Smile Brands, a large dental group with over 300 dental locations, will be rolled out in early 2019. Dental consumer products such as dental insurance, patient financing, clear aligners, braces and implant manufacturers and retailers are also being invited to participate in a pilot that will target close to three million patient visits a year.
