Tenkara Tanuki recently launched a Kickstarter campaign with a mission of raising $3,000 for the creation of a unique fly fishing prototype and a series of instructional videos. That goal has reached more than quadruple the support asked for and just reached over $15,000.
The Tanuki Ninja-Tenkara Fly Fishing Rod was created based on a design used by Japanese fishermen hundreds of years ago for commercial fishing. The rod allows for the simplest form of fly fishing possible; it requires only a rod, line, and fly – no reel.
The flexible, sensitive rod allows for casting a fine line while offering an additional indicator for detecting fish bites in deep water. The rod is light, weighing in at just 2.2 ounces, making it possibly the world’s lightest tenkara rod.
For new fly fishers, using the tenkara rod is easy to learn and more straightforward than other versions of fly fishing, and for experienced anglers, fishers can focus on fishing is what they like to do most.
The Tenkara Tanuki team has been working closely with rod manufacturer engineers and production staff since their first rod in 2014. Now, they have a prototype that’s ready for manufacture. In addition, Tenkara Tanuki is adding to their rod by offering a series of instructional videos that give in-depth tutorials on areas such as casting, dry fly manipulation, reading the water, and more.
Backers have shown immense support for the new rod while receiving perks such as Ninja shoulder bags, early bird packages and kits, and more.
The campaign still has days to go, offering ample opportunity for backers who still want to get on board. More information can be found at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/832460291/tanuki-ninja-tenkara-fly-fishing-rod-tenkara-tanuk?ref=3xuvi0.
