Genius Lab, Inc. aims to prepare young Black and Latinx students for careers in IT through teaching them coding and business development skills. Genius Lab focuses on exposing Black and Latinx students to the possibilities of learning how they can manipulate technology in order to solve problems that don’t yet exist. This can be better understood by their motto which is to get a job or create one. This clearly highlights that Genius Lab is on a mission to develop the next generation of tech-preneurs.
Genius Lab’s system of learning is extremely unique which makes difficult stuff easier for students to learn. Their interaction with the youth does not mimic the school system which is why it is very interesting and intriguing for students all around the world. Their main aim is to make learning fun by challenging youth so that they can think outside the box and believe in themselves that they can accomplish bold things when they allow themselves to believe in their capabilities.
At Genius Lab, nothing is considered impossible. They foster critical thinking skills, teamwork and collaboration, professional development as well as problem-solving skills for every participant. Perhaps the most important aspect of Genius Lab is where students learn the skills to build solutions to the problems around them. The confidence needed in order to implement and create the solution is crucial. They also learn how to package the solutions into viable business presentations and plans so that they can be applied to the business world as well as maintain their original idea. This is where their virtual programming for schools and parents comes in.
This Fall/Winter, Genius Lab has decided to offer a string of new programs that particularly focus on social and emotional learning, engaging diverse learners, relevance and STEM. Genius Lab believes in merging the line between technology and entrepreneurship by providing an engaging project-based learning environment through virtual programs. Students will also create personal digital portfolios as proof of their learning.
Programming is available for 5th to 12th-grade students, anywhere in the world where students can access a stable Internet connection. The Genius Lab Fall/Winter 2020 program menu includes Mobile App Development (Android), Entrepreneurship, Podcasting 101, the Stock Market Game, as well as their highly sought after Lion Chasers Mentoring program.
Their in-depth curriculum encourages hands-on activities, public speaking, critical thinking, writing, as well as mental skills that develop the students’ oral and written communication as well as teamwork and collaboration. Through the virtual programs, students will be given the opportunity to build mobile apps, conduct research, and create newsletters, videos, music, and other digital communication products that are the demand of this changing world.
