A Mind to Mind Conversation by Denis Hachey is listed as non-fiction, but it tells the fictional story of David, a man with a negative mindset who finds a way to turn his life around. It sits somewhere between self-help and inspirational fiction. If you look at the core messages, it retells the wisdom of the ages, so readers experienced in this subject will likely find little new. What it does do extremely well is to put this wisdom into a very accessible story, where we share David’s insights as he turns his life around. Rather than providing the reader with pages of lists and instructions to follow, by sharing this wisdom in a fictional context, it engages our sympathy for David. This speaks directly to the part of the brain that governs our EQ or emotional intelligence, and that’s the part of the brain that needs to listen to what the book has to say.
A Mind to Mind Conversation by Denis Hachey operates on a number of levels. It is first a conversation between David and his subconscious, which is also referred to as the Higher Self, the part of our being that looks after us, to put it simply. The conversation then becomes one between David and his awesome aunt. She’s Yoda to his Luke Skywalker. I don’t make that analogy lightly. The essence of that conversation is the same. The power to pull the ship out of the swamp exists in our minds. Finally, it’s a conversation between the author and the reader, as all books are. For this reader, it was a conversation well worth the time. As a final note, I listened to the audiobook version, which is narrated well and has professional production quality.
