2020 Suzhou Design Week was officially opened in Guanqian Street of Gusu District, Suzhou on October 30th, 2020. Since its launch in 2018, Suzhou Design Week has been successfully held for two sessions. For the past three years, Suzhou Design Week has taken constructing Gusu “City of Design” and serving Suzhou “Capital of Industry” as its core mission. This year’s Suzhou Design Week “goes out of exhibition district to blocks”, sets up Guanqian “Design New Consumption” main venue, Taohuawu “Cultural New Economy” main venue and many other branch venues, practicing the strategy of “strong cultural city ” and igniting the design enthusiasm of the whole city.
This year, Suzhou Design Week has changed city blocks to creative exhibition district. More than 27 exhibitions, 25 events, 3 design live shows, and wonderful performance of 16 branch venues will be presented in the entire city. Guanqian street in downtown of Suzhou was turned into an art exhibition area, and by various installation art and design art exhibitions, it realizes “co-construction of design blocks”, tells new stories of Suzhou such as “urban revitalization”, “industrial innovation” and “life aesthetics”, so as to create the annual cultural and creative design feast.The “Cultural New Economy” main venue in Taohuawu Historical Cultural Area closely follows the demand of the times regarding the development of “Grand Canal Culture” and “Integration of Yangtze River Delta ”, and presents the latest exploration achievements of “Cultural New Economy” Suzhou model.
Meanwhile, in the era of digitalization and internet industry, Suzhou Design Week has also actively integrated into the waves of digital cultural creative industry. By launching the applet of “Design Passport”, jointly launching “Yangtze River Delta Cloud Design Week” with Citizen Card Company etc., and combing with offline Q4 design consumption season involves industries like household, gourmet, parent-child, art, automobile etc., Suzhou Design Week has built the new business form of design consumption, advocating value consumption,energization from multiple perspectives, and a presentation of Suzhou’s new horizon through various formats.
This year, Suzhou Design Week will also implement the first “Suzhou Design Live Show Base” in front of the newly upgraded XPORT park, inviting new business forms and new design to enter the base relying on internet, thus to provide broader propagation path to design thinking and design creativity and explore potential markets for design industry. Suzhou cultural industry is gradually switching from rapid increase in quantity to the direction of upgraded quality and integrated development, the digital transformation of Suzhou Design Week will better manifest the cultural attitude of Suzhou as an open city via internet and digital thinking, to attract more new design and new industries to Suzhou and improve the soft power of Gusu in sustainable development.
From Guanqian Street to Taohuawu, from Gusu District to many places of the city, Suzhou will ignite the passion of “energizing Suzhou”, and explore new methods of promoting urban revitalization via modern creative design.
