Heather Lyn Davis Hits Multiple Amazon Bestseller Lists With “I Can Sleep When The Wind Blows” Teaching Children How Planning Ahead Helps Create Peace In Difficult Times

Children’s Book Author Heather Lyn Davis’s first release, I Can Sleep When The Wind Blows hit Amazon.com’s best seller list on November 6, 2020, climbing all the way to Number Two in the Children’s Christian Fiction bestseller lists on Amazon in the UK and multiple categories of Top 10 bestseller ranking in the USA and other countries.

I Can Sleep When The Wind Blows is a retelling of the classic story of Jim, a 17 year old boy who applies to work on a farm. His only qualification is that he can sleep when the wind blows. When a terrible storm comes in the night, the farmer learns the value of this unusual skill.

This classic folk story has been used in schools, churches, and homes for centuries to help children understand how planning ahead and working hard can help them feel peace in difficult times. Parents, teachers and others can use this story to begin the conversation with children about what causes them to feel anxiety and how being prepared by planning ahead can help ease their anxiety and help them feel peace.

In response to the book hitting Number Two, Davis stated,

“Becoming an Amazon Best Seller is so wonderful because it means more children and families are hearing this story and hopefully using it to help them feel more at peace in this difficult time in our world.”

“There’s something beautiful about a favorite book from your childhood. It’s like reuniting with an old friend.” – Heather Lyn Davis

While super storms are always a growing concern highlighted in the news, news channels have recently been focusing on the Coronavirus (CV-19) pandemic that is impacting everyone’s lifestyle at all ages, and making us all more aware of our personal responsibility for proper emergency preparedness throughout life. There has never been a time when families and children especially need the story and message of I Can Sleep When The Wind Blows as much as they do now.

World-renowned Mayo Clinic has shared on the topic of childrens’ storm anxiety:

“There are several things you can try to ease your child’s fear. For some children, it is comforting to know the plan for staying safe in a storm. Talk to your daughter about what your family can do during a storm — even if you are outdoors or away from home. Reassure her that you will do whatever you can to keep her safe. Knowledge also can be helpful. Books, websites or other resources that discuss storms are a good place for [them] to learn more.”

“After reading it to my kids, I was able to have a good conversation with them about why it’s important to prepare. My kindergartner had a fire drill today and we talked about why we practice for emergencies. We also made 72 hour kits for our family a while ago and we talked about why it’s important to have food, water and supplies in case of emergencies.”
