LOS ANGELES, CA – Dec 24, 2020 – Last week, three talent agents formerly with Los Angeles-based, Rebel Entertainment Partners – Phil Irven, April Yuan, and Cal Boyington – established Vital Artists Agency. The agency’s managing partners bring decades of experience to this new venture and are poised to help clients navigate a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape. Vital Artists Agency also maintains a mission of promoting inclusivity and fair representation in the entertainment industry and intend to serve as advocates for diversity, equality, and equity for artists in their creative endeavors.
Vital’s founding partners have a diverse array of expertise and experience within the entertainment industry. Yuan was an agent at Rebel for several years following her undergraduate education at UCLA and her time at USC Gould School of Law. Prior to joining Rebel, Boyington worked as a producer, while also spending time as an agent at ICM and as the Head of Alternative at Paradigm. Irven began his career with CAA and WMA and spent nearly 20 years as an agent with Rebel Entertainment Partners.
Irven, Yuan, and Boyington felt this was the perfect time to set out given substantial changes underway in the entertainment industry. Speaking about these shifting dynamics within the industry, Irven said:
“Because the marketplace has grown exponentially beyond the traditional broadcast networks, and cable outlets, with all the digital premium platforms, we feel more than ever it is an exciting time to be a seller.”
Vital’s founders have also made clear their intention to be advocates for diversity and inclusion in entertainment. Elaborating on this aspect of their vision for the agency, Yuan said the following.
“As a woman of color in this industry, it has always been a personal mission of mine to advocate for diverse talent and marginalized voices, and with the full support of my partners at Vital, we are, as an agency, absolutely committed to leveling the playing field and championing those who haven’t been given the advancement opportunities they deserve.”
The new agency already has a number of clients under their representation. Production company clients include Scott Sternberg Productions, Lauren Grace Media, Conveyor Media, and Sunwise Media. Directors repped by Vital Artists Agency include Sarah de la O (The View), Randi Clarke Lennon (Tamron Hall), and Paul Casey (Real Time with Bill Maher).
