HER Digital Academy is helping women across the world upskill and re-train individually, while also partnering with workplaces to build accelerator programs for startup founders

HER Digital Academy is proud to announce the launch of its online school today, offering education for women across the globe via their digital platform. The academy provides one-to-one mentoring, live instruction sessions, and real-world projects to help students upskill or re-train for better job opportunities in technology

Coding 101 Workshop, Front End Development, Full-stack Development and Software Engineering Accelerators are courses the academy currently provides for its growing global community of women learners. They also have in-house skilling accelerator courses for companies that help build the next generation of women IT experts.

Andrea Sesum and Ayumi Moore Aoki, two visionary women leaders passionate about tech, run HER Digital Academy. The two mothers and immigrants met online in March 2020 and decided to create a platform specifically to provide advanced tech education for other women.

“Statistics show that less than 19% of the global tech workforce are women, creating a serious gender diversity issue for businesses, not to mention systemic problems for the future financial security of families,” said Sesum.

“85% of women, who want to return to the workforce, want to return immediately. We need to give women role models, access to proper education, and support finding jobs in order to build better talent pools for businesses and more sustainable communities overall.”

HER Digital Academy is a social enterprise that helps students fund their studies through flexible payment plans, reducing the need for third party loans.

“HER Digital Academy wants to help women across the world secure jobs by acquiring the education that makes them competitive,” said Moore Aoki. “This means teaching women tech, where, when, and how they need to be taught.”

“We are the first online school to offer coding to women in Zambia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa because we believe that promoting a passion for technology and providing access to technical education means women today – and the next generation – will thrive in the future of work.”

HER Digital Academy is also supporting women entrepreneurs who build tech startups with the knowledge, technical skills, and mentorship acquired in the program. Moreover, the academy also works with corporations and organizations to create, design, and launch “Seed Accelerators”, or innovation programs to support early-stage women-founded start-ups.

HER courses are taught by IT experts with several years of experience and practical knowledge. By providing a virtual learning platform, the academy makes it easy for students to join the program from anywhere without severe cost implications. Students taking part in the course can begin their journey into a thriving and successful IT career in weeks instead of years.
