Hero Trainer App to Host First Virtual Powerlifting Competition 1
The competition stands by our vision of rebranding the definition of gamers. Anyone can be strong.
Free mobile app Hero Trainer, which allows users to earn rewards in dozens of games on all major consoles just for collecting steps, is hosting its first event for gamers.

Ahead of the event, competitors will submit their top weight lifting videos showcasing three different exercises: bench, squats and deadlifts. On Saturday 17th July 2021, 12pm to 5pm PST, Hero Trainer app founder Yash Jain will be joined by two guest judges to score the videos live on the Hero Trainer Twitch stream.

Competitors will be made up of 30 men and 30 women, with all spots for men currently filled. Each person will also make a short introduction video about themselves, detailing their favorite games and characters.

The competition was the brainchild of Hero Trainer influencer John Roberts, President of the USF Powerlifting Club, who suggested an official Hero Trainer Powerlifting team. Due to the current difficulties that come with hosting in-person Covid-compliant events, Roberts suggested the virtual powerlifting meet instead.

“As an avid gamer who also happens to powerlift, I’m really excited to be a part of an event that will help change the stigma of what the ‘typical gamer’ is capable of,” Roberts says.

What: The first virtual Hero Trainer powerlifting event for gamers

When: Saturday 17th July 2021, 12pm to 5pm PST

Where: Hero Trainer’s Twitch channel

Each person will be ranked in weight class as well as overall strength to weight ratio, and winners will be invited to join the official Hero Trainer powerlifting team. All participants who enter the free event will receive a Hero Trainer ‘swag bag’ with merchandise, and winners will receive video game gift cards. Other event highlights will include a musical half-time show, hourly giveaways, and viewers will even have the opportunity to compete for in-app points by sharing the most wholesome compliment for each competitor.

“The competition stands by our vision of rebranding the definition of gamers. Anyone can be strong,” founder Yash Jain says. “The best way to do this is by putting it in the face of public eyes. This event is about showcasing our community of gamers and in the rawest form of strength, powerlifting.”

Jain hopes it will pave the way for more future Hero Trainer events like virtual 5K runs, esports tournaments, and more for the growing community of health focused gamers.
