The tech training nonprofit, NPower, has announced it is still accepting applications for the fall semester for young adults and veterans interested in taking free virtual training courses in technology.
The NPower Tech Fundamentals Program is a FREE, 23-week training program with virtual instruction. The tech training program begins on September 7th.
NPower is dedicated to removing the obstacles under-served populations face when entering the technology industry while also determining what the industry needs to overcome these barriers to diversity. 100 percent of NPower students are unemployed or under-employed when they begin the program. 76 percent of NPower trainees identify as Black, Latinx or multicultural.
The CEO of NPower, Bertina Ceccarelli, says the team at NPower is proud of their graduates, who tackled the challenges brought by the pandemic while completing rigorous coursework, exams, certifications, and professional development activities.
“Each and every graduate had the ambition to turn their obstacles into stepping stones for a brighter career,” says Ceccarelli. “These young adult and veteran graduates have an advantage, as they take on a tech labor market that continues to grow.”
On July 28th, NPower honored 360 graduates from NPower programs across the country – Brooklyn, Harlem, Jersey City, Newark, Baltimore, Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth, St. Louis and San Jose. (Graduating students and family can watch the ceremony here).
The Chief Compliance Officer of Citigroup, Mary McNiff, served as commencement speaker for the Spring 2021 graduating class.
This was the third NPower class to transition from an in-person to a virtual learning environment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. NPower has seen a 19 percent increase in their graduates this year compared to the first virtual graduation class in March 2020 when NPower transitioned to its first virtual training program.
Teniola Akande graduated from NPower New Jersey in July 2021.
“I started from being a graduate who had difficulties in getting a job to interning at Google,” says Akande. “This would not have been possible without the guidance and support that I got from being at NPower.”
Joshua Murphy is another NPower graduate from Maryland serving in the U.S. Army National Guard and has recently landed a tech position with AeroTek.
“Since completing the NPower program and obtaining multiple certifications, I have taken steps to translate my IT skills and experience in the military into my own business venture,” says Murphy. “I highly recommend NPower.”

The nonprofit organization will continue with its virtual training model as they recruit the incoming Fall Class of 2021. Applicants can apply now on the NPower website. The next class starts September 7th, 2021.
