Dr. Scott Werden has been named Director of Medical Imaging at the newly-founded Institute of Advanced Thoracic Surgery in Orlando, Florida.
Dr. Scott Werden is a nationally-recognized leader in advanced imaging of thoracic outlet syndrome, a complex nerve compression syndrome of the upper extremities. Dr. Werden holds several patents on processes involved in imaging of these patients, has published multiple articles on thoracic outlet syndrome, and has performed and interpreted thousands of MRI examinations for diagnosis of these patients.
The institute of Advanced Thoracic Surgery falls under the leadership of Farid Gharagozloo, MD, FACS, FCCS. FACHE, who is widely recognized for his work in robotic surgery of patients with thoracic outlet syndrome, as well as other thoracic diseases. Dr. Gharagozloo is Surgeon-in-Chief and Professor of Surgery at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Gharagozloo has published dozens of articles on robotic surgery and thoracic outlet syndrome and edited several textbooks on robotic thoracic surgery.
The Institute of Advanced Thoracic Surgery is a major step forward in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with thoracic outlet syndrome. Thoracic outlet syndrome occurs when the large nerve network in the neck is compressed or stretched, resulting in nerve symptoms in the upper extremities. Thoracic outlet syndrome occurs in elite athletes, and may result from athletic or recreational activity, occupational repetitive stress injuries, and extensive use of digital devices. The disease is now being recognized with ever-greater frequency, but current diagnostic testing has been unreliable.
