Darrell Kelley, an independent recording artist and founder of Viral Records, is committed to being a loud and resounding voice against the injustice of police brutality.

Atlanta, GA – May 3, 2022 – Darrell Kelley, an acclaimed singer and songwriter renowned internationally for ushering in a new era of protest music, was among the protesters at the Love, Justice and Unity Rally held by the parents and supporters of a 16 year-old black teenager, whose family allege he fell victim to a vicious hate crime by white teenagers.

An independent recording artist and founder of Atlanta, GA-based Viral Records, Kelley is committed to being a loud and resounding voice against the injustice of police brutality and systemic racial inequality. Over the past three years, Kelley has been gaining global acclaim for his unique activism, as result of him writing and producing social justice songs and participating in protests focused on bringing awareness to victims of hate crimes and questionable killings by police and white supremacists in the African American community.

The Love, Justice and Unity Rally was held on Sunday, May 1st in the parking lot at 214 Cowardin Avenue, Richmond, VA 23224, where concerned members of the community gathered. According to the teen’s family, the child was rendered unconscious from drugs given to him when he was with a group of white teens who he thought were his friends.  However, once unconscious, racial slurs and Nazi emblems were written and drawn on his head and face with markers and photos were taken of him and placed on social media.  He and his family also allege he was sexually abused during the incident, all of which was brought to the attention of law enforcement, with no consequences.

Kelley invited community leaders and concerned citizens to join him at the Love, Justice and Unity Rally, to ensure the investigation does not get swept under the rug.

“I am absolutely appalled and disgusted that not more attention has been shed on this case and that FBI and other law enforcement officials would so easily dismiss it as not being a crime,” says Kelley.   “The Black community cannot afford to get tired or complacent about the increase of racially motivated crimes happening in our communities across the country,” continued Kelley, who is also the founder of the UWGEAM Ministry.  “It is my mission to not only work to stop police brutality and racism through the use of social conscious music that directly addresses the injustices that continue to happen to the Black community, but to also implore our community to not ever lose sight of the fact that the struggle for justice must continue daily,” he said.
