The distinguished IoT platform developer Open Automation Software has released OAS Version 17 with security enhancements. This latest security update is introduced to improve the data security of the OAS platform and protect against unauthorized access. The users are notified to set up security on the OAS Engine if the default security has not been updated. OAS version 17 update helps in preventing unauthorized access and includes updated encryption, as well as protection from packet spoofing.

Open Automation Software (OAS) is one of the leading IIoT solutions providers. The company has set a benchmark in the field of industrial automation. The security update is introduced to bring ironclad safety features and prevent modification of configuration parameters. The update also limits real-time and historical data access. OAS system developer said, “At OAS, we keep improving system security and add advanced features to help users protect their systems and data from unauthorized access. The new security update comes with user credentials encryption. This encrypts the user credentials which means the data within the byte stream won’t show the username by implementing a unique seed value for each client connection. The OAS version 17 update also has secure client server handshaking that adds ironclad transport to each data packet. It means that the packet will be rejected by the client and server if it is replicated from a sniffed packet. The data packet can’t be reproduced externally and each packet from client to server is unique. For validation purposes, it needs to pass algorithm verification from a previous transport.”

The different security groups in the OAS Engine have different levels of access. Multiple users can have access to each security group but each user can only belong to one security group. To prevent unauthorized access to configurations, live data, and historical data, users need to modify the security setup for all versions of OAS. It has become easy to assign an administrator user that prompts users to disable the default security group. The Admin security group is automatically added to assign an administrator user. The security update encrypts the data within the packet. This prevents the extraction of data within the packet by sniffing the network connection.
