Camp Cutlery: A Hunger for Justice is book one of a new graphic novel series set in a world of LGBTQ anthropomorphized food. Today a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the graphic novel’s printing is launching with a goal of $5000 and provides a chance to the backers to pre-order the Camp Cutlery at an early bird price. It is one of a kind story and first-time author, Robin Carnilius, hopes it will entertain, educate, and empower LGBTQ folks and allies.

Camp Cutlery follows a transgender, genderqueer teen named Peanut who is an unapologetic social justice warrior. Peanut is falsely accused of a bombing in their high school during a protest and sentenced to a conservative military-style correctional facility for troubled teens. While serving time at Camp Cutlery, Peanut has to fight for freedom and expose the truth about Camp Cutlery’s reconditioning therapy programs.

Camp Cutlery is the brainchild of Robin Carnilius, trans gender queer multimedia storyteller who specializes in stories about social issues facing the LGBTQ community and people of color. Carnilius has a background in both film and illustration and spent two years writing and illustrating  Camp Cutlery, which will now become their first published book. Camp Cutlery is a graphic novel series spin-off of one of Carnilius’ previous animated web series, McTucky Fried High. The series ran for two seasons with twelves episodes and shed light on a variety of subjects including coming out, gender identity and expression, racial discrimination and more.

The success of the Kickstarter campaign will ensure that Carnilius is able to publish  Camp Cutlery which will expand the McTucky Fried High transmedia universe. Backers can also get various rewards for contributing to the Kickstarter project, including a print copy of Camp Cutlery with their name in the acknowledgment page, unique bookmarks, and dog tag keychains. Additionally, backers have the opportunity to donate extra copies to local LGBTQ organizations like the IL Safe Schools Alliance, Affinity Chicago, and Gerber/Hart Library.
